Contents:

These boxes have been kindly given to us by The Primary Science Teaching Trust and Jurassic Coast Trust who have worked together to develop resources that teachers can use in their classrooms and local environments to inspire interest in the UK’s geological history. Primarily aimed at Y3 in the UK curriculum, the resources are also useful for evolution in Y6, plus dinosaurs in KS1.

The box contains:

  • Samples of 6 rock types: Chalk, Limestone, Sandstone, Slate, Granite and Marble and some fossils (eg. ammonite/ belemnites)
  • A copy of the Teacher Guide and supporting materials eg ID cards for the rocks and fossils, Rocks Family Tree, Geological map of the UK, A Branch sorting key and a possible Learning Journey
  • A magnifying glass
  • A Grain measure
  • One set of ‘The Story of The Ichthyosaur’ cards (also available to download from the PSTT Big Jurassic Classroom Resources – ‘How do Fossils Form?’)

The Teacher Guide includes exciting activities for learning about rocks, fossils and evolution. All the reproducible resources in the book are available at full size in a separate resource pack, also free to download. The box is designed to be used alongside a wide range of online rocks and fossil resources covering 3-7 years and 7-11 years, available to download from the PSTT website:
